BD have been collaborating with Hawkins\Brown and Bishops Stortford College over the long term masterplan of the site from 2013 through to 2017 with the first two phases complete.
We worked as part of a wider design team that looked to relocate and enhance the College’s day houses in order to unlock a site designated for two new boarding houses. These were completed last summer and needed a sensitive and considered approach to planning, design and development.
The landscape strategies were key at consultation and planning stage and working around the mature tree framework alongside strategic new tree planting help to create an instant landscape setting to the new buildings.
Sustainable urban drainage solutions were expressed boldly to add to the learning environment as visual and biodiverse areas that combatted the previous issues on site with extensive flooding.
The first phase of the masterplan – Wynch Cottage – won a 2017 RIBA East Regional Award.
