This school renaissance project involves the demolition of a single storey science building dating from the 1970’s and the construction of a new 2 storey science building. With the removal of the existing Science Block a great opportunity is created for a new high quality green heart to the school.
This high quality sculptural courtyard will comprise a series of grassy mounds with arboretum productive tree planting to soften the central core and provide useable spaces for learning outside the classroom, performance, rest, and social interaction.
The central courtyard will have an intimate feel with beautiful flowering and fruiting semi mature trees – selected to flower and fruit during the school calendar – curved tactile seating, and grass areas for resting and relaxing. To the curved nodes between the mounds clusters of slatted benches allow for outdoor teaching, performance and gathering.
2013 will see the school enter into its 400th year and the building of the science block and new landscape setting will take the school and its history into a new era.
