The site for the EcoHouse, comprises approximately 1.3 acres and sits on the south west facing slope of the Kennett and Avon Canal valley within the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty.
The steeply sloping landscape character comprises a range of habitat areas including amenity grassland and shrub borders, orchard edge to woodland with poor semi-improved grassland, and an area of hazel woodland containing a number of ancient hazel coppice stools and a number of mature and semi mature trees.
The landscape strategy for this ecohouse project is to reduce the visual impact of the house to enhance the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To increase the biodiversity and nature conservation value of the site by creating habitat areas for local biodiversity action plan target species e.g. Biodiverse green roofs, species rich wildflower meadow, semi-natural ancient woodland and to be an exemplar model of sustainable landscape design to enhance the landscape character of the site.
The project received planning consent in August 2011 and was completed in late 2013.
