Our brief from developer HAB: ‘to make homes that lift the spirits; that are a pleasure to live in and a joy to behold.’
Lovedon Fields was part of the HAB housing’s broader objective to achieve a step-change in the design quality that is expected of, and delivered by, rural housing developments.
The landscape-led scheme included allotments, natural play spaces, a biodiverse country park, wildflower meadows and a village green.
The homes provide a backdrop to a public realm designed to encourage interaction and community, with doorstop benches, overlooking terraces, calm shared surfaces and informal meeting and play spaces.
The project was chosen as ‘outstanding winner’ at the 2022 Landscape Institute awards following both regional and national RIBA awards and shortlisting in the ‘Neave Brown Award for Housing’.
“In marrying the formality of residential development with the freedom of nature it creates the perfect place to live, play and connect. It is beautiful, it is thoughtful… and a time when we urgently need trailblazers in sustainable inhabited landscapes it is hopeful…
Huge congratulations to B|D landscape architects; through a collaborative and inclusive approach, you've set an amazing new standard for how landscape can deliver the affordable, sustainable housing the UK needs”
