I formed a close bond with B|D landscape architects 10 years ago whilst working at Hawkins\Brown. Their designs are always incredibly thoughtful, authentic and capture the imagination of the audience. No task is ever too great or small, and the team at B|D always approach a project with enthusiasm, passion and care.
I believe landscape architecture is imperative to the success of a project as often it contributes hugely to the notion of ‘freespace’ provided - the small parts of an architectural ensemble that makes a building enjoyable for the passer-by as well as the user. This can vary from a carefully considered fruit tree that enhances a façade and provides shelter from the elements, or a street bench with many uses – for sitting, waiting, playing, climbing upon, cycling around – giving joy and space back to the street and the public realm.
Over the years collaborating with B|D landscape architects at Pocket and at Hawkins\Brown, we’ve successfully delivered projects together where landscape enhances the sense of place of the architecture and strengthens social bonds between residents. Allotments provided give residents a chance to get to know one another, share produce and seek respite from the city. Roof top terraces celebrate the metropolis in all its guises, and increases social interaction and chance meetings for the residents.
I look forward to many more years working alongside B|D – with an increased focus on wellbeing and environmental design.
