The proposal for 30 new dwellings on this site presents an exciting opportunity to deliver a development with a distinct local character and identity that will foster a sense of community amongst the occupants and complement in particular the new development on the adjacent Abbey Barn South Reserve site.
The site which has been derelict for more than ten years will be an exemplar of “place making” and will optimize the relationship with Deangarden Wood, which, together with the adjoining Keep Hill Wood, provides approximately forty hectares of Ancient Woodland.
The scheme has great landscape at its heart with a central ‘Glade’ providing residents with a strong sense of place and the creation of shared surfaces to provide a community feel that isn’t dominated by vehicular traffic.
It uses the principles of ‘Secure by Design’ and creates a hard working landscape using sustainable drainage strategies and an appropriate lighting strategy taking into account ecological sensibilities.
