Green Light for Oxford Physics

BD Landscape Architects are delighted to announce that the Oxford City Council Planning Department has granted planning permission for the Clarendon Laboratory 2 building and associated public realm with a unanimous vote at committee.

The £35 million project will act as the front of house for the University of Oxford’s science campus and an important new quad opposite Keble College on Parks Road. A high quality palette of materials comprises bronze and timber seating elements, linear planks of Portuguese granite paving and seams of bronze banding.

This new quad is sensitively designed around a landmark Cedar tree, planted in the 1880’s, which acts as the focus to the square and will incorporate public art & feature lighting.

Lsbu: Student Centre

BD are very pleased to be appointed to develop the public realm improvements for London South Bank University’s first anchor site; the Student Centre on Borough Road.

In collaboration with HawkinsBrown we are working to create a unique ‘sense of place’ by providing a high quality public realm that increases the permeability, with key connections to the wider campus.

Oxford University

BD have put the finishing touches to the Stage D report for the Physics CL2 project on Parks Road in Oxford working with Hoare Lea, HawkinsBrown, Peter Brett Associates, DPDS Planning for the Oxford University Estates Directorate.

The complex scheme will create a contemporary Oxford quad that acts as front of house to the new physics area with a high quality public realm that complements and grounds the CL2 building. This will be the catalyst for the regeneration of the Science Campus of the University of Oxford and was submitted for planning in November with a decision due at the end of May.

Spirax Sarco

BD have been busy developing the Landscape Masterplan for the Spirax Sarco headquarters at Charlton House in Cheltenham. The project for the FTSE 100 company looks to enhance and upgrade the pedestrian routes through the campus with new footbridge over the River Chelt and enhanced quality public realm to the HQ entrance, training centre and car park.

The masterplan successfully achieved planning consent and first phase has already completed on site as pictured.

We are delighted to be appointed to work up the detail design stages of this transformational project.

Working with HawkinsBrown and Alpha Group the proposed redevelopment offers a great opportunity for central play and learning spaces on tiered terraces that will become the heart of the redeveloped prep school.

AA Hooke Park Masterplan

BD were shortlisted, alongside Gustafson Porter, Gross Max & Grant Associates to submit proposals for developing the Landscape Masterplan of the Architectural Associations’ rural campus at Hooke Park.

We had an inspirational visit to the 350 acre working woodland in Dorset which contains experimental timber buildings designed collaboratively by ABK, Frei Otto, Buro Happold and Edward Cullinan. This was followed by a selection interview in Bedford Square where we presented of our approach, experience and strategy for developing the landscape masterplan to the Director of the Architectural Association and selection panel.
